As Vice President of Development for Whitman Family Development, LLC, Ivor Nikolas “Nik” Massey works with legal, design and construction teams to evaluate existing and potential real estate developments.
Experienced in both architectural design and financial analysis, Massey reviews architectural plans and renderings and runs sensitivity analyses to identify significant variables in the company’s real estate projects.
Prior to joining Whitman Family Development in 2012, Massey managed a new, mixed-use office development in midtown Miami and a three-tower, mixed-use residential project on the waterfront in downtown Ft. Lauderdale.
In Richmond, VA — where Massey lived for more than 20 years — he created three-dimensional models and video flythroughs of proposed projects at the University of Richmond and the College of William and Mary. Also in Richmond, he participated in two master planning charrettes with Bon Secours Health System and the Miami-based architectural and planning firm Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company, developing master plans extending over 40-to-100 years for St. Mary’s Hospital and Richmond Community Hospital and its surrounding community. For Historic Richmond Foundation, Massey assisted in the preservation of numerous historic landmarks, some dating to the Civil War and earlier.
Born in Miami, Massey returned to the city of his birth in 2011 to enroll in the University of Miami’s new graduate program in Real Estate Development and Urbanism. In that program, he met Matthew Whitman Lazenby, President and CEO of Whitman Family Development, LLC. Graduating from UM in 2012, in the same class with Lazenby, Massey joined Lazenby’s company the same year.
Massey also holds a Master’s in architecture and Bachelor of Science in economics, both from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech).
He is an avid photographer and a CrossFit training enthusiast.
